Professional Development Descriptions

 

Change Management: Many people prefer things the way they are and have difficulty with change but change is a fact of life and work if there is hope for improvement.  This program helps participants learn strategies to deal with change and hopefully, embrace changes.

Communication Skill Building Workshops:  This workshop program is designed to meet the changing needs of communication skills needed in the workplace.  This includes written communication, oral presentation and overall skills.  There is an assessment, activities and practice sessions included. 

Conflict Resolution: Conflict is a healthy part of business but needs to be handled well and professionally.  Lack of respectful conflict resolution can lead to gossip, trash talking, inappropriate joking and very low morale.  This program offers strategies and practice to resolve issues before they become problems using the person's own style as determined by an assessment tool.

Customer Service (Service Excellence): Service Excellence should be extended to co-workers, supervisors, line staff, vendors and the general public.  Excellent service will increase morale, customer loyalty and profits.

Dealing with Difficult or Dangerous People: Some people (staff or patrons) can be difficult to deal with or may become violent.  This program provides strategies to handle people in a safe and calm manner to increase the possibility of a positive outcome.

Diversity Training: How well we get along as a global community or an organizational structure increases our productivity and happiness.  This program discusses commonalities as well and differences to appreciate and embrace everyone's uniqueness.

FranklinCovey Programs: These programs are provided through FranklinCovey.  Mako & Associates has a trained facilitator in 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (2 or 3 days), 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens (1 day), 7 Habits Maximizer (a refresher for those who have taken the signature program.  1 day) and Focus: Achieving Your Highest Priorities (1 day).  Purchase of FranklinCovey materials for programs is required.

Harassment Training: These tailored programs provides information on different forms of harassment, protections for people being harassed and those who report harassment, as well as how to deal with a report of harassment.  Supervisor section provides more detailed information on handling a report of harassment and other responsibilities.  Program uses real examples in activity. 

Leadership Training: This program assesses your personal leadership style and provides strategies to improve and work well with other.  Video on leadership, discussion and scenarios.

Learning Styles: Different people learn in different ways.  This program will identify your preference and help you maximize on your strengths and provide strategies to work on your less strong areas. 

Personal Safety: This program offers ideas and strategies to stay safe.  This is not a physical/martial arts programs, this is a lecture/discussion on ways to remain safe.

Strategic Thinking/Planning: This program offers information on how to think in terms of future planning.  Think of winning at chess in the workplace.

Certification Programs Descriptions



Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP)
This program includes information about how diseases are transmit and specifics about bloodborne pathogens including HIV and Hepatitis C.  Certification through the American Red Cross.
Program is 1.5 hours. No expiration date.

CPR/First Aid
This program meets the Revised Codes of Washington (RCW) requirement for safety trained staff in all workplaces. Certification through the American Red Cross.
Hours vary depending on level (professional rescuer or lay caregiver). May be combined with BBP. CPR valid for 1 year. First Aid valid for 3 years.

CPR/First Aid Instructor
Successful participants of this program will be certified to offer CPR/First Aid courses to others.  Certification through the American Red Cross. Program is 24 hours. Automatically renews when program
taught. Requires current CPR/First Aid and Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT). Instructor certification must be renewed through teaching a program every 2 years.  Red Cross will periodically require updates.

EverSafe Driving
This program provides information on how to drive more safely. Certification through the Evergreen Safety Council. 1-, 2- or 4-hour programs. No expiration date. May reduce corporate and/or personal auto insurance rates.

Flagger Training
This program will provide all necessary information to be a safe Flagger.  Certification through the Evergreen Safety Council. Initial program - 8 hours. Renewal program - 4 hours. Valid for 3 years.

Lifeguard Training
This program offers all information necessary to become a Professional Lifeguard including CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid.  Certification through the American Red Cross. Program is 35 hours. Renewal times vary depending on number of participants and level of experience. CPR valid for 1 year. First Aid and Lifeguarding valid for 3 years.

Water Safety Instructor
